Maha Shivaratri

Every year in moth febaruary , march or maagh ,faagun the great hindus festival maha shivaratri will celebrated dedicated to lord shiva or distroyer as we called him.

On this day we belive that lord shiva will perform havenly dance and pepoles poses various rituals such as fasting , pooja , jagran and lingam pooja another significance of this day was that shiva and paarwati poses marriage and adjoin himslef as adiguru to adi shakti .

Mythological Story of Mahashivratri Vrat

According to the scholars, this story of a hunter named Chitrabhanu is found in the Shiva Purana. Long ago, Chitrabhanu used to hunt to feed his family. Being poor, he used to take loans from moneylenders, which he could not repay on time. To recover his debt, one day Chitrabhanu was imprisoned by the moneylender, due to which Chitrabhanu had to remain hungry and thirsty.

Meanwhile, Chitrabhanu worshiped Lord Shiva. Chitrabhanu was left by the moneylender in the evening to settle the money, after which Chitrabhanu wandered through the forest in search of prey. Wandering from evening to night, but he did not find a single victim. Nearby there was a bael tree on which he climbed, a Shivling was present under that vine tree.

Chitrabhanu offered Belpatra on Shivling:

Because of Chitrabhanu, the Bel leaves kept falling on the Shivling. Staying hungry and thirsty for the whole day, inadvertently right at night, but Chitrabhanu had offered Bel leaves to Shivling. A pregnant deer came near the pond during the night. Chitrabhanu was about to kill that pregnant deer when the pregnant deer told him that she was going to give birth to her child soon. I will come back to you after giving birth to my child, then you will hunt me. Hearing about the pregnant deer, Chitrabhanu let her go, thus the first prahar of Mahashivratri also passed.

The worship of the second Prahar ends:

Chitrabhanu was looking for prey when another deer came from there. On seeing the deer, Chitrabhanu was ready for hunting, when Hirani told him that she had just come free from the season and was searching for her husband. Hirani promised her that she would return to the hunt after meeting her husband. Chitrabhanu let him go, thus the last watch also passed. Because of Chitrabhanu, the Bel leaves fell back on the Shivling, due to which the worship of the second Prahar also ended.

The third deer was also freed:

After some time the third deer came from there with her children, Chitrabhanu again agreed to hunt the deer. Hirani said that she would leave these children with her father and come back. Hearing the words of the deer, Chitrabhanu left her too. In this way Chitrabhanu kept fast for the whole day and did night awakening.

Life given to the fourth deer:

Chitrabhanu was engrossed in his debts and family concerns when a deer came there. Looking at Chitrabhanu, the deer said that if you have killed three deer and their children then only you can kill me. And if you have left them then leave me too I will come back here with my whole family.

Chitrabhanu told the deer the incident, then the deer replied that those three deer were his wife. If you kill me then those three deer will not be able to fulfill their promise. Trust me I will be back here soon with my whole family.

Chitrabhanu attained salvation and Shivaloka:

Hearing the deer, Chitrabhanu let him go. In this way Chitrabhanu had a change of heart and his mind became pure. Chitrabhanu had worshiped Lord Shiva throughout the night, due to which Lord Shiva was pleased with him. After some time the deer had reached Chitrabhanu with his entire family.
